How does nursing pay and progression typically work?

Pay generally rises with education and specialization: a BSN opens more roles than an associate degree, and graduate pathways such as FNP, CRNA, and nurse leadership sit above staff-RN pay. Progression is rarely automatic. It follows the degree, the certification, and the years of practice each role requires.
